Event Description

Since 1980 Art Uptown Gallery has offered a diverse selection of local professional artists’ works in painting, mixed media, sculpture, glass, jewelry, and textile. In May, the gallery will introduce the 6 newest artists represented by Art Uptown with a group show entitled Uptown Views. The exhibit opens on April 27 and runs through May 25 with a public reception on First Friday, May 3 from 6-9 p.m at 1367 Main Street, Sarasota.

Peter Christ paints compelling, large-scale, representational oils. Peter’s paintings convey his cheerful sense of humor and love of color.

Leigh O’Rourke is a contemporary artist whose work is colorful, intuitive, and usually includes themes derived from nature.

Laura Reed is a mixed-media artist with a passion for color, layering and experimentation with various mediums.

Dan Reeves' paintings explore the relationship of colors and forms using color fields and brush strokes that affect the perception of colors as they relate to each other. His work often utilizes dazzling color with sometimes vivid brush strokes to imply form, to evoke mood, depth and space.

Kathy Wright’s contemporary abstracted landscapes draw from both the experience of place and the imagination recording her immersion in her medium while capturing an episodic moment in time.

Marlane Wurzbach paints realistic, colorful acrylic paintings meant to cheer the viewer and offer a visual vacation for those who love Florida's Gulf Coast.
