Event Description

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and La Vista Verde present Rainforest Masks of the Borucan Indians of Costa Rica.

The Selby Museum of Botany and the Arts will showcase these unique, striking masks from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., March 4 through April 15. An opening reception is scheduled on Thurs., March 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (R.S.V.P. to 941.366.5731 x 239).

Meet the Artists sessions are scheduled on March 5, 6, 12, and 13 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. (Spanish interpreters will be available).

Take advantage of this opportunity to meet the Borucan artists and watch them carve and paint these incredible, one-of-a-kind masks.

C.J. Shelley of La Vista Verde will present a lecture entitled, “The Road to Boruca and Beyond” in the Cooley Theater at Selby Gardens on March 10 from noon to 1 p.m. This free lecture will include a travelogue with images of Costa Rica and the indigenous village of Boruca.
