Event Description

Discover the artful wines of Italy and Spain at Casa Italia’s inaugural monthly wine tasting. On Friday, August 10th, from 6 to 8 pm join owners Raj and Nita Mathur, along with wine specialists for a delicious wine tasting.  Cost for this event is $10 per person. Reservations are limited; please call 941-924-1179 to reserve your glass.

This month’s wine tasting will feature ten different wines from Italy and Spain. Along with the wines, Casa Italia owners Raj and Nita have selected a savory selection of artisanmeats, cheeses and hors d’oeurves to complement wines. Chat with visiting wine specialists about the vintages, wineries and varietals.

August wine selection:

Legado del Conde Albariño, Adegas Morgadío, Spain

A full-bodied, serious, dry Albariño similar to its sibling Morgadío incorporating wines made from the first pressing in a comparatively softer and more floral style.

Impulse, Reisling , C.H.Berres , Germany

Clean, well-crafted Mosel Riesling from mature estate vineyards in Erden, Wehlen and Kinheim including ungrafted vines. "Impulse" reflects the injection of energy from a new generation. Intense tropical fruit aromas and textural richness surrounding a core of bracing, mineral structure.

Xiloca, Garnacha, Bodegas Vinae Mureri,  Spain

One hundred percent Garnacha from old vines planted primarily in red clay soils. Bottled without oak, a spicy, forward and versatile wine with a fresh, juicy flavor and finish.

Cepas Antiguas, Tempranillo, Bodegas Martinez Corta, Spain

fruit aromas of plums and blueberries are followed by a rich and velvety palate and a lingering, refreshing finish.

Carchelo, Bodegas Carchelo, Spain

40% percent Monastrell, 40% Syrah, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Elaborated separately, these three varieties come together to shape a well-structured, concentrated, and intensely aromatic blend. Good structure, mouth filling, powerful, black fruit and spiciness from Syrah, juicy and fresh.

Prosecco, Domenico de Bertiol, Italy

A pale hue with good bead, and a fragrance and taste of fruit and almonds. It is delicious! It has ample fruitiness and elegance to make it attractive to those not seeking bone-dry, austere sparklers.

Dogojolo Bianco, Carpineto, Italy

Elegant fruit aromas create a pleasant bouquet. Medium-bodied with good acidity and a dry, smooth finish.

Dogajola Rosso, Carpineto, Italy

The nose is fruity with hints of cherry, coffee, vanilla and spice. It is full and soft on the palate with complex and well-developed flavors and tannins.

Pinot Noir delle Venezi, Due Torri, Italy

A delicate bouquet of berry fruits It is well balanced with mild tannins that round out the finish.

Valpolicella Classico, Cesari, Italy

Delicate in texture with aromas of cherries, flowers, and earth on the nose. A well-balanced wine with a firm structure that comes from its acidity rather than oak aging.
