Playshop with Jeff Hanna of The Rhythm Inlet. Welcome all levels, no experience needed, adults, motivated teens, youth ages 9 and up. A fun introduction to a diverse range of folkloric cowbells, shakers, scrapers, wood blocks, from Ghana, Brasil, Dominican Republic, Cameroon, Peru, Mexico, Indonesia, Bolivia, and other countries! These instruments can be musical on their own, or enhance the sound and energy of hand-drum ensembles, and multi-instrumental bands, too. We’ll learn specific hand-techniques to get the best tones, create interlocking rhythms with multiple instruments using simple grooves, and finally a percussion ensemble with a full range of sound. Jeff has been developing his knowledge and proficiency with folkloric percussion since 1991, when his non-profit, fair trade, third and forth world craft store, Meridian Arts, Inc., began carrying all these unique, interesting and fun musical toys. Instruments provided, available for purchase, or b.y.o.. Call for info or to register. $25; discounted to $20 if register by Jan 4!
