The Glenridge Performing Arts Center (7333 Scotland Way,
Sarasota) is proud to present, Marlene VerPlanck, co-produced by South County Jazz Club and
GPAC - Saturday, April 6th at 8:00 p.m.
Marlene VerPlanck enjoys the admiration of a legion of fans, and peers as well.
She collaborated throughout her long career with her husband, arranger,
composer, and conductor Billy Ver Planck. Her 17th album, My Impetuous Heart,
reunited her with old friends Hank Jones, George Shearing, Marian McPartland
and Bucky Pizzarelli.
Marlene began with Tex Beneke and Charlie Spivak. Later, with Hank Jones,
Herbie Mann, Joe Wilder, Wendell Marshall, and Kenny Clarke, she recorded I Think of You
with Every Breath I Take, on Savoy Records. She and Billy VerPlanck were with Tommy
Dorsey for a time, and then went on to studio work with Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Tony
Bennett, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Blood Sweat and Tears, and Kiss. Millions of people first heard
Ver Planck's voice doing jingles in the '60s: "Weekends were made for Michelob/Yeah!"
and "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should!" and "Mmm good/mm-mm good/that's what
Campbell's Soups are/mm mm good."
Marlene has played Carnegie Hall, Michael's Pub and the Rainbow Room in New York City.
She appeared on Entertainment Tonight, The Today Show, and CBS's Sunday Morning. In
The Digital Mood, featuring Ver Planck, Mel Torme, and Julius La Rosa with the Glenn Miller
Orchestra, became the first big band CD to go gold in the '90s. Today Marlene travels the world
performing at concerts and festivals. This will be her third appearance in the Sarasota area,
where she has quickly developed a devoted following.
