Château de Parenchère
The estate dates from the 16th century. The chateau was built in 1731, when its wines were greatly appreciated by merchants from Bordeaux and England, who used Parenchere wines in blends.
The Château became the property of the Gazaniol family in 1958. Raphaël Gazaniol, who had returned from North Africa where his family had been winegrowers for two generations, fell in love with the estate and its terroir. He passed on his passion for winegrowing to his son Jean who took over the estate in 1981. Now the next generation is creating wonderful wines appreciated by Bordeaux lovers around the world, including Jancis Robinson.
Chateau de Parenchere wines featured this week:
2009 CH DE PARENCHERE BORDEAUX BLANC SEC, $10.95
70% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Sémillon, 10% Muscadelle. The average age of the vineyard is 25 years old, and the oldest vines are nearly 50 years old. The vines are planted on chalky clay soils. Light yellow robe. Intense white and citrus fruit aromas are displayed on the nose. In mouth, the wine is both fresh and round on the palate.
2009 CH DE PARENCHERE BORDEAUX CLAIRET ROSE, $10.95
80% Merlot - 20% Cabernet Sauvignon the average age of the vineyard is 25 years old, and the oldest vines are nearly 50 years old. The vines are planted on chalky clay soils. Light cherry colour. The nose is very aromatic with intense cherry and strawberry scents. The mouth is very round and fleshy, with a fresh and delicate long finish.
2008 CH DE PARENCHERE BORDEAUX SUPERIEUR, $14.95
This traditional Parenchere blend is very fleshy, with a very deeply coloured robe. Characterized by a good balance between fruit and tannin, it displays distinct red fruit aromas with a long, sustained finish.
2007 CUVEE RAPHAEL GAZANIOL - BORDEAUX SUPERIEUR OLD VINES, $16.95
50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon This wine is aged exclusively in barrels made of oak from the Forest of Tronçais, 30% of which are new on average depending on the type of vintage. Our Cuvée Raphaël is always a very dense, very concentrated wine with elegant tannins that stand out, but are mellow and smooth. They are elegantly woody, but not excessively to leave plenty of room for the fruit.
