Event Description

Time Sifters Archaeology Society and the New College Public Archaeology Lab are hosting an archaeological festival on Saturday, March 12 from 10 am – 1 pm to celebrate Florida Archaeology month. The public is invited to enjoy a fun-filled family day with activities that include learning how soil is made and then painting with it, exploring Native American tools, learning how to analyze an artifact, and even trying to throw an atlatl (if you don’t know what this device is, then you really should stop by and try your hand at this!). Visitors can take a tour of the Public Archaeology Lab, view films of local history and archaeology, and hear lectures by Time Sifters’ board members. A free lunch of hotdogs and lemonade will be provided.

Held every March, Florida Archaeology Month is a statewide event designed to encourage Floridians and visitors to learn more about the archaeology and history of our state, and to demonstrate the importance of preserving these valuable pieces of Florida’s rich cultural heritage.

Sponsors for the festival include GWiz, Little Salt Spring/Warm Mineral Springs Archaeology Society, Florida Public Archaeology Network, South Florida Museum, and Around the Bend Nature Tours.

For more information, contact Time Sifters’ Sherry Svekis 941-359-0683.
