This ain’t your mama’s hula-hoop. Six years in the making, THE HOOPING LIFE follows real life stories of young mavericks transformed by the practice of modern hula-hooping. Today “hooping” is vibrant with singular moves, outrageous styles, and a strong sense of community. Artists and activists from the gang-ridden streets of South Central, to the transgendered Latino underground and the fitness centers of San Francisco are creating hoop-based inner-city youth programs, mind-blowing performances and are transforming fitness into fun. Through interwoven stories, the film chronicles the emergence of a subculture and gradually reveals the ethos of the hooping community: to take the risk to believe in oneself and engage fully into life.
