The Gift of An Angel

Unlike most people, Marilyn Allen did not choose her profession of acupuncture. Instead, you might say acupuncture chose her. She was a single mother of two studying to be an occupational therapist when she realized this vocation was not for her. In desperation, she prayed nightly for an answer of the work she was meant to do. After three months of prayer, she had a dream in which she was wearing a white coat and placing needles in a man’s back. At the time, she was totally repelled by the idea of sticking needles in another human being. Furthermore, she knew nothing about acupuncture. Yet she believed in the power of prayer and the messages of dreams, so she began to research it. Three years later, she enrolled in the New England School of Acupuncture without ever having experienced an acupuncture treatment.

Marilyn has now been fulfilling the message of her dream and practicing acupuncture for 21 years. She blends her training in both Chinese and Japanese acupuncture into an approach which she believes is most effective. She practices traditional Chinese medicine using the Japanese needling technique which does not require twirling. Marilyn is opposed to the Chinese method of twirling because of the risk of needles becoming lodged in the nerve, breaking and having to be medically removed. The risk may be small, but she can’t bear the thought of one of her patients suffering because of her treatments. It’s the same reason she once disposed of 13,000 dollars worth of Chinese herbs after she became concerned about the toxicity of ingredients being added to the herbs.

There is another way in which Marilyn adapts her treatments for which she has no concrete explanation. Even though she goes into the room with a prescribed treatment plan in mind, the plan spontaneously changes once she is in front of the patient’s body. Marilyn attributes this abrupt change in plan to a wisdom that comes from outside of her self. It is also the reason she believes her patients improve so rapidly. Many patients come to Marilyn after futile attempts with other healing modalities and finally experience a positive result. As an acupuncture teacher and clinical supervisor, Marilyn taught students to integrate their intuition into their clinical practice. For years afterward, she received cards of appreciation for her innovative approach.

Not only does Marilyn treat most health issues, she also uses microcurrent to diminish the cravings of cigarettes and other addictions. In the rare occurrence that patients don’t stop smoking after the first treatment, the second treatment is half-price.

It isn’t enough to satisfy Marilyn to merely treat the inside of the body. She also uses microcurrent probes and colored light to perform facial rejuvenation. The result is toning, firming, minimized lines, and a natural glow created by the increased blood flow to the face. True to her perfectionistic nature, Marilyn attended Aesthetician School to make sure she was well-versed and skilled in all aspects of skincare. In addition, she trained in acupuncture facelifts.
