Have A Clothing Swap Party

Of course you love your clothes, but sometimes you become a bit tired of wearing the same fashions over and over. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could exchange your wardrobe for a new one without spending a fortune? You can by having a clothing swap party. A clothing swap party is where a group of friends get together for an evening of socializing and clothes swapping. Here’s how to have a clothing swap party:

Make your guest list for the clothing swap party

Make a list of the fashion divas that you know. Be sure to invite people who wear a similar size so the group will be able to successfully exchange clothing with one another. You want all of your attendees to be able to participate in the swap.

Make and send your invitation for the clothing swap party.

Send a handmade invitation to each potential participant instructing them to bring fashionable clothing in good condition that they no longer wear. Let them know they’ll be able to exchange their old clothing for gently worn new clothing at the party. Emphasize it’ll be a night of fashion talk, clothing swaps, and fun. Send out your invitations two weeks before the event and request that each recipient RSVP.

Set up your house for the clothing swap.

Hold your clothing swap in a large room. Be sure to provide lots of comfortable chairs for your guest. You may also want to provide coffee and simple desserts for your guests. You should have a separate room for participants to try on clothing.

Conducting the clothing swap party

When guests arrive with their clothing, issue a ticket for each item that they donate to the swap. Guests will be able to exchange a ticket for a piece of clothing in the swap. Allow each person to present a piece of her own clothing to the audience. Guests who are interested can hold up their ticket and exchange their ticket for that piece of clothing. If more than one guest wants a piece of clothing, the person who raises their ticket first receives the piece of clothing. This continues until all of the pieces of clothing have found a new home and everyone is out of tickets. If an attendee is in doubt as to whether a piece will fit, give them the opportunity to try it on.

Have some fashion fun.

After the clothing swap, spend some time allowing your guests to model their new fashions and the group can make suggestions on how to wear a particular piece of clothing. Pass around fashion magazines and make it a night of fashion talk, socializing, and fun.

A clothing swap party can be an entertaining way to update your wardrobe and find a new home for clothing you no longer wear. Why not give it a try?

Funny, I have been speaking about this with several friends of mine. There was an article in Vogue Magazine several months back. I am in the planning stages as we write:)
