Intense competition and a distressed economy mean many films will never make it to theaters. This year's film festival may be your only opportunity to see most of the films--and there are indeed, many wonderful films at the festival. Tze Chun, director of "Children of Invention" said that although the Sundance Film Festival is known for top notch films, sales at the annual festival have diminished from 40 to 20 to only 6 films over the last few years. Support the filmmakers for their hard work and see the films at the Sarasota Film Fstival this week.
Lots of filmmakers will be in town over the week-end, many of which are selling DVDs of their films. It's possible you could be seeing the film, meeting the filmmaker, and owning the DVD before its shown in theaters.
