RELATIONSHIP TIP OF THE WEEK: Keep Your Eye on the Prize

When I say keep your eye on the prize, the prize is a loving and cherishing relationship. Once you are in a committed relationship, it is important to view that relationship as something valuable and to be mindful of doing whatever you need to do to maintain its value. No matter what is happening between you, remember that your ultimate goal is to have a happy relationship and act accordingly.

If you are arguing, remember that what you want in the long run is to be happy together. Is any disagreement really worth damaging the positive feelings between you? Whatever you say to each other in those moments, remember your ultimate goal.

If you are going to making an independent decision, ask your self if the choice is going to promote positive feelings in your relationship or if it might cause a disruption. Consider how your interactions with others affect your relationship. Interacting with that old beau on Facebook is going to do nothing to add to the love in your relationship. If you are making a joke at your partner’s expense, is the humor really worth the hurt feelings it may cause or will your partner find the humor in it?

Do you get my drift? It’s really about becoming conscious and doing whatever you need to do at all times to maintain the treasure you originally discovered together. It’s about being just as goal-oriented in your relationship as you are in other areas of your life. If you keep your eye on the prize, you will hit the jackpot in your relationship, and the winnings will be invaluable.
