Dealing with Recession Stress

Most of us are feeling the pinch from the worst economy since the Great Depression.
Job loss, mortgage foreclosure and fading hope for the American dream are driving many to seek relief from the pressure of today’s economy. For some that pinch feels more like a vise grip, quenchable with alcohol, painkillers and narcotics resulting in a dramatic rise in alcohol and drug abuse statistics. According to the DEA, there is an 80% increase in the past 6 years. What starts as an innocent Valium to help calm the nerves can quickly turn to an addiction compounding the stress of today’s reality. But there is hope and help to get back on track and learn healthy ways to cope.

Recovery from drug and alcohol addiction is simple, but not always easy. The desire to stop is the first and most critical step. We can take it from there. Individual counseling, twelve step systems, meditation, relaxation, breathing techniques, hypnosis and other non-traditional tools help people manage the stress of everyday life without using.
Knowing someone believes in you and your success when you have little strength to believe in yourself is a powerful tool. We can be the rock you lean on when climbing up and out from under addictions to the open air of the better life. This is a path countless others before you have taken and they have succeeded. You can too!
Andrea Spissinger, a Certified Addictions Counselor, has recently partnered with Elissa Bentsen of Forever Souls, Hypnosis and Past Life Regression to offer traditional and alternative counseling for those swept under by the rip tide of recession stress. Andrea has been an addictions counselor for 15 years, formerly with Tri-County Counseling Services in Northport. She is accepting new clients in Sarasota and Manatee Counties by appointment at the Sarasota office of Forever Souls. You can reach her by phone at 941-268-3619 or contact through the website www.foreversouls.com

I may have some issues that are holding me back from living up to my full potential and taking risks, is this something that you might be able to help me with?

This article makes a few excellent points. INTENTION DRIVES EVERYTHING. In order to reverse a condition, we must first admit to having it. If we're headed South, for example, and we want to be going North, the first step is to admit that we're going in the wrong direction. This is NOT the scenic route; don't kid yourself. You have to stop, turn around, and head the opposite way.

Like you say in the article: "Simple, but not always easy." That's why there are erasers at the ends of pencils. Progress is often measured in baby steps. "Loving yourself is accepting yourself -- ESPECIALLY when you are NOT accepting yourself" (from Peter Rengel, MFCC).
