Twice each year, we experience a brief time when day and night are of equal length. This happens because the sun is directly above the earth's equator; the earth, for that moment, is tilting neither toward nor away from the sun. It only stays there for a moment. This autumn, that moment is Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 9:21 pm. There's something mystical/magical about an equinox, maybe because it is so brief.
Symbolically, night and day being equal represents the utlimate union of yin and yang, balanced in dynamic interaction. For many of us, most of the time, we are more busy being busy (yang) than just being and relaxing (yin). For others it is the reverse.
With a partner, our intimate connection (if we make time for it at all!) may be more yang or more yin. We may engage in activities together - cooking, playing tennis, running a business (yang) or we may be simply resting in each other's arms (yin).
