I understand the whole "Going Green" thing can seem a bit overwhelming, but all our efforts "big or small" make an impact. Here are a few things you can do that are simple, inexpensive and worth the effort:
1) For some of us, the act of not using the garden hose to sweep the driveway may not appear to be an effort in "going green" but it definitely does help conserve water.
2) Each time we utilize re-usable grocery bags in lieu of the plastic counterparts we make a positive impact.
3) When we chose to purchase items in larger containers, it most often saves money but also helps offsets the amount of waste added to our landfills. Purchasing items we use often in larger containers also helps conserve energy in the manufacturing and shipping of smaller packaging.
4) Deciding not to print unnecessary pages on our printer.
1. Do a PRINT PREVIEW prior to hitting the print button. That way you can select to print only the pages you need.
2. HIGHLIGHT the text you want and print only the version you want to have a hard copy of.
3. Along with using recycled paper - also print on both sides.
4. Recycle your ink cartridges and receive rebates for future ink purchases.
5) Recycle old athletic socks by cutting each old sock off just slightly above the ankle and below the ribbed leg section. The left over foot portion can be used instead of those expensive disposable dusting mittens. These things are great for getting around stair banisters, railings, gripping table and chair legs to dust.
6) Fill a water bottle with filtered tap water rather than purchasing water in plastic bottles.
Going green doesn't have to cost a lot of green! Utilize these simple tips to make a positive impact on the environment while keeping your wallet intact. It's easy, even for the laziest of environmentalists.
Once you've got the green bug, there's no stopping you.
