The Kiwanis Club of Sarasota presented two grants, each in the amount of $10,000 to Pines of Sarasota and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Sarasota on Friday, September 11, 2009.

The $10,000 grant for Pines will be used to purchase new specialized laundry equipment and $10,000 grant funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs will utilize to support their after school tutorial programs called “Adventures in Learning”.

“We are thrilled by the generosity of the Downtown Kiwanis Club in helping us purchase this much needed special equipment. This will greatly enhance our ability to provide the dignity and level of care our residents at Pines deserve,” Wells Purmort, Pines Board Chairman said. “Serving on Pines’ board I am touched by this significant support by the Kiwanians as they were responsible for starting Pines in 1948 and continue to be there for us today!”

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers, dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.

“The Downtown Kiwanis Club has always been there for our kids!,” Mack Reid, President/CEO of the Boys & Girls clubs of Sarasota County said. “Our ‘Adventures in Learning’ grant will allow us to continue to work with the kids and help them succeed in all areas of their school work! The Sarasota Kiwanis Foundation and the Kiwanis Club of Sarasota help our kids BE Great! Because of their support, our kids will BE awesome, BE amazing and BE anything they want to BE!”
