This morning msnbc posted a study on new mothers and bad health habits. While most times having a baby results in loss of sleep, poor eating habits, less exercise and the resulting weight gain, this does not always have to be the case. Breast feeding burns many calories, so if that is an option, great. Nap time is a great time to exercise, so consider the stroller, but don’t just stroll, get moving! Try to get out each day if you can, and when you can’t, perhaps pop in an exercise video and dance! Small children? Resist the urge to finish their uneaten food…you don’t need it and the children in Africa (or wherever you were told as a child) won’t benefit from your efforts. The real trouble comes when women return to work. It is often difficult to find time for exercise, and taking care of you takes a backseat to your job and caring for your family. My suggestion is to make the best food choices possible and to enlist a spouse or babysitter so you can get the exercise you need. Lack of exercise and a poor diet are risk factors for cancer and many other life-threatening diseases, so make the choice to make you a priority. Today is the first day of the rest of your life, make it count. http://on.msnbc.com/hZ
