Usually I trim my plants back end of November, beginning of December…just in time to put up the Christmas lights. This year I didn’t. It was warm and it was wet. My crepe myrtle, had already dropped most of its leaves, but with the spring-like weather it had started to bud. With my plants I confused, I waited for winter to arrive or at least fall. It did! With the start of 2010, there was NO Questions as to whether winter was here or not.

I believe that economically speaking most people have finally acknowledged a season change. This last year was painful for almost everyone. Some businesses closed their doors while others just managed to stay afloat. Others grew, although not at the percentages of other years. And then some grew big and grew fast. They outgrew models of operation and with changes all around struggled to find clear role models for today.

Now that we are no longer confused about whether the season has or has not changed, it is definitely time to do something about it. Currently my yard is a not pretty sight, and it isn’t something that will just bounce back. It is going to take some pruning, and some things will have to be written off. Regardless of what I try to do though, not everything will be salvageable. However, the good news is that this too will pass. Spring will come…warm and wet as it always does and the buds and blossoms will emerge.

Some great confused weather photos
