Fashion Trends in Tennis...On and Off the Court at The Sarasota Open

Tennis has always led the way in sportswear.  With the sexy skirts, the all-white and of course now, the Williams Sisters!  New trends are in full view at the Sarasota Open going on now at the Tennis Gardens at Longboat Key Club & Resort.  In the pro-shop, box-seats and on-court, trends are apparent.  Sarasota participants are showing what’s happening in the world of tennis and beyond.  It’s all about color, multi-tasking and style.

According to longtime sales associates at the Tennis Garden Pro Shop (Susan and Polly), for men this year, it’s all about color.  Nadal started it on court with his vibrant and sophisticated style.  While whites are always in season on the courts,  grass green with black and vivid blue can be seen on the courts now, too.  In fact, Don Lang, an independent sales rep for FILA and other key accounts let me know that ‘Vivid Blue’ on men and ‘Lilac’ are the colors being released for the French Open next month.  (See attached photos)  Longboat Key Club & Resort already have them in stock.  Sarasota’s fashion-forward residents and guests are once again ahead of the curve.

A serious trend for women: the dress.  Some of these tennis dresses could double as cocktail attire when tennis shoes are switched out with heels.  Liza Audley was a longtime designer for St. John Knits prior to her foray in to the sports world.  Being a tennis enthusiast herself, she brings style and utility to her tennis dresses.  This seasons looks have fringe reflecting the flapper era – for women AND girls!  Ms. Audley is from Wisconsin but vacations on Manasota Key.  In fact, Longboat Key Club & Resort moves more of her designs than any other Florida resort.  Once again, our residents lead the way.

Even the spectators at the Sarasota Open show serious style.  In box seats, you can see some of the latest in accessories, fashions and shopping bags, of course.  Sponsor Iberia Bank got in to the fashion action to with the much-coveted logo dress.  Color, dresses and accessories raise the enjoyment level for players and spectators but they never take away from the sheer talent on display at the Sarasota Open. Enjoy the talent and do a little shopping at the Longboat Key Club Tennis Gardens between the semi-finals and finals this weekend at The Sarasota Open.
