Instant Gratification - Do we really want it?

INSTANT GRATIFICATION – Do we really want it?

The old adage “measure twice, cut once” as it applies to woodworking and sewing, could be equated to the instant communication world we are living in now i.e. texting, cell phones, email, im, Facebook etc…

All of those wonderfully beneficial methods of keeping in touch instantly should come equipped with a device comparable to the apparatus installed in a car after a driving under the influence conviction.

How many of you (oh come, you can admit it, if only to yourself) have sent out a text, or an email, or posted something on Facebook either in the “heat of the moment” or after a few too many cocktails? Only to realize in the morning, either, OMG, or wow, that did not come out quite right, and felt the instant regret or terror, pondering how to backpedal or just suck it up and apologize?

Always, always, save those seemingly brilliant, perfectly justified, fully executed blasts in your drafts until the light of day. Begin by re-reading (definitely over strong coffee); reevaluating, restructuring or even better DELETE will be the choice more often than not.

All of this instant communication can cause irreparable harm to relationships, credibility and respect, not to mention the inevitable feeling that you are an absolute idiot! So, having said that, let’s make a pact to cease & desist all electronic means of communication either after imbibing in mood altering substances, fighting with a partner, ex-partner, friend, business associate, government official, the world as a whole – You get the point…. Write the letter on paper, address the envelope, put a stamp on it. I am willing to bet that it will never see the post office.

Instant karma works the same whether giving or receiving. Think twice before you share your thoughts.
