Robert and Shannon Warren have been funding and running the program since fall 2008 and have been fortunate to have found additional financial support for the program in Sarasota allowing it to grow to serve all title 1 elementary schools in Sarasota County. Out of the 1000 hungry and homeless children in Sarasota County they currently feed 600 of them, kindergarten through 3rd grade. It is a program that makes sure that these children in need have healthy, nonperishable food for the weekend. Their program students at Pine View School, Out-Of-Door Academy, New Gate School, Riverview High School and Goldie Feldman Academy learn about children less fortunate than themselves and receive community service hours packing bags for children at title 1 schools throughout Sarasota (title1 school status refers to schools where children, due to hardship, receive free or reduced price breakfast and lunch through the school system. In many cases, this is the only food they get outside of school). The kids feeding kids aspect is very powerful and amazing to see in action! They will be covering Manatee County as funding allows.
