1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: This is key to keeping your hair looking healthy, shiny, and your color lasting longer. This is the time of the year when it is a MUST to incorporate a Deep Conditioning Mask to your regimen. As your hair gets dry and brittle from the sun and outdoor activities, the cuticle of the hair gets ‘roughed up’ and looks lack-luster and it allows your color to fade out leaving you with an undesirable faded look.
2. Rinse Before Swimming: Going to the pool or the beach is how we cool off with the hot summer weather, but the chemicals in the pool and the salt in the water are huge culprits in ‘bleaching’ your hair color and drying out your hair. One way to help lessen the amount of damage being done is to get your hair wet with regular tap water, making sure you get it all wet. By doing this your hair wont soak up the chemicals/salt as much as it would if your hair was dry. It is also important to rinse your hair out after you get out of the pool or salt water. If you don’t do this and you are just hanging around outside letting the hot sun beat down on you, the chemicals/salt with the combination of the heat from the sun starts to work like a bleach and your hair starts to lighten.
3. Always try to keep your hair covered when you’re out in the sun. When you’re outside doing your gardening, exercising, or just lounging around just put on a ball cap or bandana to help protect your hair from the sun. If you don’t like to have anything on your head there are products out there for your hair that have UV protection in them. Just sprits and go!
4. As always keeping up with your regular trims is always a way to your hair healthy and looking its best!
