Literacy Day Kick-off Party

The Kick-off Party for our Series of Literacy Day Celebrations went off without a hitch. We met many of Sarasota's unsung heroes of literacy, the tutors. Many volunteers, staff members and board members were present and honored, as well as Sarasota's most improved reader!

In this picture taken by John Pearce, Sarasota Literacy Council President Donald Kayton (L) and Executive Director Shon Ewens (R) graciously allowed me (Dan Christian, center) to show them our 1784, 5th edition of Samuel Johnson's Dictionary of the English Language. Our 2 volume large folio set has been professionally rebound in period full calf and has contrasting leather lettering labels on the spines.

This edition is the last one published in Johnson's lifetime and much care was taken in is publication. It really is a lovely set.
