Put Your Best Face Forward
Clients are gearing up for spring by hitting the gym, updating their haircuts and scouring department stores for the latest fashions, but most stop there, forgetting that makeup plays a key role in freshening up a look up for a new season. We got the spring trend scoop from LA-based makeup artist Burke Daniel. “For eyes, it’s all about the softer side of smoky,” he says. “You can use black eyeliner, but in a more subtle way.” He suggests pairing it with a more neutral earthy tone, like a shimmery bronze. “This is also the season for re-discovering color. Don’t be afraid to add a little pop of color to the eyes. Just use a shade your client feels confident with, then add a little to the center of the lid.” Burke says that when it comes to the brows, the key trend is keeping them soft and full. “Only tweeze the hairs that are definitely in the wrong places, then fill in with a soft, natural taupe color similar to the natural brow color,” he says. Finally, no spring makeup look is complete without a fresh-as-a-daisy complexion. “One easy way to give the illusion of fresh, clean skin that has foundation on, but appears as though it doesn’t, is to leave the bridge of the nose clean and free of makeup. Since it is a focal point for the face, it tricks the eye, and makes people think that you just have that natural perfect skin!”
