important days of your life! It’s time to start thinking about the when,
where and who of your big day. One of the many decisions you will make
is how you want the day to be captured. Well, I’m a tad biased, but, the
wedding film is one of the most exciting, touching and memorable ways
to capture your big day. Wedding videos have come a long way baby! They
are no longer the shaky, star wipe filled, cheeseball videos that we
have all been subjected to in the past! My friends and clients are
constantly surprised that they “are actually enjoying watching a wedding
video”! Yes, that’s a direct quote!
Wedding filmmakers are taking advantage of the newest cinematic tools that are now available, but I won’t bore you with all the techy details… if you would like to do more tech talk, Call me! I love talking
about the newest stabilization gear and editing plug-ins! But I
digress, the most important thing that we want to talk about today, is
making the best wedding film possible.
So, You have decided that you want a wedding film! Where do you start? Luckily, there are many choices out there. There are styles to fit every taste and prices to fit almost any budget! So here comes the
list!
- Check out all the samples on the web. Most wedding filmmakers will have samples on their website or blog, and if not, I’m sure they will send you a sample in the mail.
- Talk with your filmmaker and make sure that you guys get along. They will be with you on one of the most important days of your life! So making sure that your personalities meld is very important.
- Do you prefer someone who will do more posing or would like a documentary style shoot?
- Check out their reviews (important for all vendors!). Are they a preferred vendor at your venue? Do they have reviews on Wedding Wire or any other known sites?
- Know your options! There are so many awesome things you can do with your wedding movie. Engagment films are great to do before the wedding and you can even show it at the reception! There are also love story
interviews, Same day edits and trash the dress shoots!
You have chosen your Wedding Filmmaker and now the day is here! Here are some tips to consider:
- Make sure you have permission from your venue for photographers and videographers to move freely. If there are restrictions, let us know as soon as you do!
- Walk slowly. Very slowly down the aisle. This goes for the entire wedding party, but especially the bride.
- When the bride is walking down the isle, make sure that no one is standing behind her, no coordinators, security guards, chauffeurs, kids, friends with cameras, etc…
- Practice, practice, practice saying your vows aloud. and if at all possible, write your own vows. The more personal your vows are, the more touching they will be.
- Do not play music during the vows and rings exchange. This puts the attention where it should be, on the vows themselves.
- Concentrate on your partner when saying your vows and during your first dance. There is nothing like seeing the electricity between two people who love each other.
- Practice putting your rings on each others’ fingers, you may fumble a tad, but, the more you practice, the more comfortable you will feel.
- If you are having an outdoor evening wedding, especially at the beach, take advantage of the sunset! This is the perfect time for pictures. The golden light makes your skin glow and your eyes shine. If
it’s an extremely bright day, shut your eyes for a while until the
Photographer and Filmmaker are ready to shoot.
- Make sure there is enough light at the reception. We are happy to coordinate with your venue to discuss lighting. It is possible to keep the ambience of the event and see your guests, speeches and dances. Yes!
You can have your cake and see it too! ENJOY your day! You
have already done all the hard work. Now is the time to celebrate your
love, friends and family.
