Much to my dismay, I wasn’t able to see all of the films at the Sarasota Film Festival, but I did see two or three films a day. Keeping in mind that there were plenty of good films that I wasn’t able to see, here are my top picks:
The Extra Man
I am Love
Winter’s Bone
Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky
Five Hours from Paris
The Joneses (currently showing at the Hollywood 20)
The New Year
And Everything is Going Fine
War and Love in Kabul
William S. Burroughs: A Man Within
I also heard resounding praise for both A Brand New Life and Endure, but unfortunately was unable to make the screenings. If you have the opportunity to see any the above films at the theaters or on DVD, I recommend them.
Although it may not be likely that you’ll have the opportunity to view the festival shorts again, virtually all of the shorts were entertaining and well-done. So make your plans to attend the short film series at next year’s festival.
Feel free to share your top picks from the festival too!
