Finding a great burger isn’t exactly the easiest task in the world. I mean let’s be honest, there’s almost a full business plan that comes into play when trying to satisfy “the craving.” Melodramatic? Maybe. Completely on point for a lady craving savory meet between two buns? I think yes. There are endless components that come into play almost instantaneously. The bun, crisp fresh vegetables, perfectly cooked meat, juiciness, additional accouterments and the list goes on and on! This quest has led me north and south, east and west. I’m talking new beach hot spots, chain consistency, old faithful joints and local commodities. Without any whistles or flashing lights, gimmicks or chintzy deals, on the side of the road next to an auto-body shop stands a glorious wood planked shanty fit for a king or a biker dude missing a few choppers. J.R.’s Old Packinghouse Café stands tall and
mighty begging you to enter, as if the building itself is smiling and giving a warm remembering hello! Tables are mismatched, crazy chotchskis hang from the ceiling, the dodgy bar that has clearly served the best is proud and there are delicious lingering smells from the open kitchen that you can almost taste. This mecca is the place that truly delivers the perfect burger. Sure there are many tasty options, but this gal goes for the classic OPC ½ lb. chuck burger with cheese – medium rare. This is a burger that’s succulent, seasoned to perfection and tastes like it was cooked on a surface that knows what it’s doing. Oh, and a burger that’s juicy enough to drip should be a food law. I could go on for days, but I think it better if you all just go try it yourself!
