Beat the Frizzies...Love Your Hair All Summer Long

Summer brings the pleasures of warm weather, beach days, sundresses and vacations. But for most of us women, summer also means bad hair days. Dry, unmanageable hair and frizz come right along with the other joys of summer. But finally after years of fighting the frizz, the endless supply of hair products I’ve tried to no avail has been replaced forever by Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy by Coppola, a salon treatment that lasts five months. No more “tame the frizzies” hair products, no more straightening or curling irons that damage my hair, for the first time in my life, I have frizz-free, worry-free hair.

When Erin Dawson, owner of Inspirations Salon repeatedly said, “You’re going to love your hair,” I listened with utter skeptism. The only times I had ever loved my hair were in the first few hours of leaving a salon. Styling my hair at home had always been an arduous process that left me feeling clumsily inept. I could never manage to accentuate the voluminous wavy mass of “great hair” that every hairdresser seemed to comment on. Instead, any special occasion warranted a trip to the salon for the hairdresser to work their magic. Needless to say, living in a tropical climate only served to make my hair worse. Even on the days I left the salon, my hair immediately transcended into frizz in humidity. Plus, I had only been disappointed by the over-the-counter Keratin products I had already tried. How could I love my hair? But experience has taught me to trust Erin completely with my hair, so I proceeded with the Keratin treatment that Erin assured me would "heal the hair.".

Since keratin also helps to seal the color, I received the salon treatment on the same day I received my color. After applying the keratin and letting it absorb in my hair, Erin flat-ironed each strand of my hair at a high temperature to infuse the keratin protein deep into my hair. To protect us from any vapors as the keratin was heated, she opened the salon doors for ventilation and each of us wore a mask as she ironed my hair. Although unlike other Keratin treatments, Coppola’s Keratin Complex doesn’t contain formaldehyde that has been linked to cancer, Erin didn’t want to take any chances. When the process was complete, I couldn’t believe my eyes. For the first time ever, my hair was silky smooth and stick straight!

I felt a little concern initially about the loss of volume to my hair, but Erin assured me the volume would return after a shampoo and blow dry. Since hair can not be washed for three days following the treatment, I returned to the salon for my initial shampoo and blow-out. Once again, Erin’s words rang true; I left the salon with silky, smooth hair that was full of life.

The real fun of the Keratin treatment began when I attempted my first blow-dry on my own. For the first time in my life, I was able to blow dry my own hair smooth!  Another first, I didn’t have to follow the blow dry with the application of a flat-iron or curling iron. I looked like I had been to the salon!  To add to the glory, it seemed to only take about a third of the time to blow dry my hair.

Inspirations Salon charges $185 for the Keratin treatment – a real value considering other salons I checked with charge $250 to $300+. In the long run, this price of beauty is well worth it. I feel like I’m saving money, time and considerably reducing the stress in life. Although it may seem silly to consider a hair treatment a stress reliever, sometimes you only notice the effects of stress when it’s gone. The first thought that comes to mind when a drop of rain hits my hair is no longer, “my hair is going to frizz.” Dining inside or outside no longer depends on the humidity in the air. I don’t feel the need to leave the beach or pool before my hair dries into a thick mass. Getting ready to go out requires much less time, and I can walk to work without the concern that my hair will be sticking straight up by the time I arrive. I have options; I can wear my hair silky smooth with a blow dry or let it air dry and wear it wavy or bed-head with curl cream. Gone are the days of being dependent on straightening tools.

Six weeks into the treatment, I can vouch that my hair looks just as good as it did in the beginning. Erin was right; I love my hair! And now that I’ve experienced the results of the Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy by Coppola, I can never imagine living without it. Summertime in Florida just got a whole lot better!

$185 IS a great price for this treatment!!
Hi Amy,
It lasts 5 mos.? Is it harsh on the hair, when the high temp. treatment is applied? I have curly, fine hair and to get it straight takes me forever but I am concerned about damaging my hair, which is already colored. Does it sound too good to be true?

Elaine,
I understand your skepticism. I too thought the treatment sounded too good to be true. But to date, it seems to be everything it is said to be. Although it is purported to last 5 months, I can't vouch for the five months yet, but so far so good. My hair was very damaged prior to the treatment, but the treatment actually heals the hair. Each time you get the treatment, it helps it even more. I've seen a noticeable improvement. I too have very wavy hair that took forever to style. My hair is also colored. To me, the treatment didn't seem harsh on the hair at all.
