Having a Great Summer Wardrobe
With summer upon us and the mercury rising, it can be tough for a Florida girl to look good and feel fresh. Assembling a wardrobe meant for the heat of summer is your ticket to looking hot and feeling cool during the warmest season of the year.
It’s all about the fabric
The best fabric for summer clothes is one that is lightweight, breathable and absorbs moisture. There are several good fabric options to choose from when shopping for summer clothes.
Cotton is the preferred fabric for staying cool. A natural fiber with a soft texture, cotton is a staple in any woman’s closet. Chic, trendy or elegant -- cotton garments can be found in a variety of designs and patterns.
Another smart textile option for summer clothes is a cotton/ polyester blend. Choose a blend containing a higher percentage of cotton than polyester to maintain the absorption and breathability properties. This blended fabric is a great, easy to care for option for today’s busy woman and will not require ironing
.
A fabric choice you can’t miss with is linen, also a very breathable and lightweight fabric with a soft, comfortable texture. Although it wrinkles easily, linen is a very versatile fabric. From the business suit to casual resort wear, linen is at home in virtually any setting. You can dress it up or dress it down with some simple accessories. And linen never, ever goes out of style.
Muslin and voile can also be used to combat the heat while supplementing a fashionable look. As a general rule, sheer materials will be cooling.
Color Matters
Believe it or not, the colors you choose will also add to your comfort level this summer. The lighter the color, the better! Lay the foundation of your summer wardrobe with a few basics pieces in white like a great summer skirt, some casual shorts or some sassy capris. Then add a splash of color with some printed tops, a couple of solid tees and tanks, and some colorful accessories and shoes. Throw in a couple of sundresses, a pair of lightweight slacks and a light jacket, and you’re good to go. Stay away from dark hues during the summer months as they will absorb the heat from the sun.
Keep It Cool Now
Follow these tips for choosing cooling fabrics and colors when selecting summer outfits. And bask in the joy that you don’t have to be hot to look hot!
