Madeleine Albright, President Mikhail Gorbachev, Newt Gingrich, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and Dr. Robert Ballad will deliver an exciting set of diverse, global perspectives to Sarasota audiences through the Ringling College Library Association�s Town Hall 2009 lecture series. Each speaker will present a morning and evening lecture, starting at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively, at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.
Albright, the first female Secretary of State and author of three New York Times best-sellers, will kick off Town Hall 2009 on January 14. Albright will be followed by former U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives Gingrich on January 28, world- renowned historian, Doris Kearns Goodwin on February 9, accomplished oceanographer and discoverer of the Titantic Ballad on March 3 and President Gorbachev on March 23.
Now in its 30th year, Town Hall is Southwest Florida�s premiere lecture series. It is the major fundraiser of the Ringling College Library Association that supports the Vernman Kimbrough Memorial Library and the students of Ringling College of Art and Design.

In 1997, Madeleine Albright was the highest ranking woman in the history of the U. S, government. Prior to that, Dr. Albright served as the U. S, Permanent Representative to the United Nations and as a member of the President�s Cabinet. Her latest book, Memo to the President Elect: How We Can Restore America�s Reputation and Leadership was published in January 2008.
Newt Gingrich is well known as the architect of the "Contract with America" that led the Republican Party to victory in 1994. Newt is passionate about "green conservatism," which is an innovative, market-based, common sense approach to protecting the environment by rewarding conservation through incentives while fostering "green" economic growth and affordable energy.
Doris Kearns Goodwin is a commentator for NBC, and a consultant and on-air person for PBS documentaries on Lyndon B. Johnson, the Kennedy Family, Franklin Roosevelt, and Ken Burns� The History of Baseball. A best-selling author, Mrs. Goodwin�s most recent book is a monumental history of Abraham Lincoln entitled Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln�s 200th birthday is celebrated February 12th.
Dr. Robert Ballard, an accomplished oceanographer, is best known for his 1985 discovery of the Titanic. His impact is widespread in the areas of oceanography, oceanic exploration, deep-water archaeological excavation and the integration of telecommunications technology in oceanic exploration. Featured in several National Geographic television programs, Ballard has received 13 honorary degrees and published 18 books and numerous scientific papers and articles.
A recipient of the 1990 Nobel Peace Prize, Mikhail Gorbachev is world-renowned and admired for streamlining and decentralizing the oppressive system he inherited. In 1993, Gorbachev founded Green Cross International, the environmental organization with a mission to help ensure a sustainable and secure future for all by fostering a value shift and cultivating a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility in humanity�s relationship with nature.
