Getting Your Blog Noticed

You’ve started a blog. You have a few loyal readers and you’d like to take it to the next level. The A-list bloggers carry the clout in the blogosphere.
How can you attract a following too?
A-list bloggers know a thing or two about growing readership and they’ve mastered the art. But it’s not rocket science. Anyone with decent writing skills, a unique angle, and rock-solid commitment can get noticed. The following tips will help your chances of rising to blog stardom.
Post Daily
Most blog readers like to start their mornings with a cup of coffee and their favorite blogs - be sure your post is there when they want it. Most A-list bloggers post once a day or even more. A-list blogger David Hauslaib quipped, “You gotta have something posted before people get to work because [your] audience is people who hate their jobs.” Daily posting develops a symbiotic relationship with your readers. Foster that dependency by giving them a daily dose of you.
Find Your Voice
If you are funny, be funny. If you are philosophical, be philosophical. But whatever you do, do it well. Very well. Develop your signature style and stick to it. You’ll attract readers who crave what you’ve got. If you’re unsure which style best suits you, try various angles in the beginning. You’ll discover what readers desire by the number of comments generated by each post.
Link Up
A great way to get noticed is to comment on other blogs. Especially witty or apt comments will invite return visits. Also, link to others on your blog. Bloggers are always appreciative of the advertising and networking opportunity and many will return the link-love. Bloggers don’t advertise, so getting linked on someone else’s site is an endorsement of the highest order. In blogging, word of mouth is not only the best advertising, it‘s usually the only advertising.
Be Easy on the Eyes
Blog beauty isn’t only skin deep but first impressions are definitely important. Make your blog attractive and easy on the eyes. Choose colors that match your style. Keep your sidebars uncluttered. Design an attractive and unique header and be sure your font is large enough and dark enough to read easily - squinting to read fine print is a real turn-off. Your blog should be eye-catching, easy to navigate, and comfortable for your readers. Consider your target audience and style your blog accordingly.
Shed Your Skin
If you’re serious about attracting large readership and what you’re doing isn’t
cutting it, change course. If your somber political analysis isn’t working, try being funny or sarcastic. If your satirical interpretation of parenting isn’t working, try being authentic and moving. Don’t beat a dead horse - if you aren’t getting hits, you aren’t offering what readers want.
Don’t Stop
A-list bloggers know it takes consistency and relentlessness to attract and keep attention. If readers come to depend upon a daily post from you, you can’t skip three days of posting and expect them to be waiting. The competition is too stiff and they’ll stray elsewhere. Set a writing schedule you know you can keep - and then do.
