At A Family Reunion

The key to making any family reunion a success is to have enough things to do.
Providing activities that help everyone get comfortable with one another, allowing them to have fun and play games, and capturing all the moments on camera are all great ways to ensure that your family reunion will be a fun event that will be fondly remembered for years to come.

Icebreaker Activities

An icebreaker or getting-to-know-you type of activity can help everyone feel comfortable right off the bat. While there are a multitude of different icebreaker activities available, one very popular icebreaker activity is “Getting-to-know-you” Bingo. In this Bingo game, the squares of the Bingo game card will have random facts about people. For example, one square might say “has pierced ears” while another may say “is under 10 years old” and so on. Instead of calling out numbers like traditional Bingo, the players attempt to get a “Bingo” by crossing off the squares when they find a person at the reunion that matches the fact on that square. This is not only a great way to facilitate talking and sharing amongst family members, but everyone can learn many interesting facts about each other in the process as well.

Games
Games are always a popular activity at family reunions. If the reunion is outdoors, any type of sport is usually a good choice. Some sporting options that are good for large groups include baseball or softball, volleyball, or basketball. Competitive games like sock hop races or relay races can also be great fun. However, if the reunion will be taking place indoors or if your family is not very athletically inclined, playing a family trivia game, a scavenger hunt, or even board games are some alternative ways to have fun.

Family Photos

A family reunion is a wonderful opportunity to have some family pictures taken. In addition to taking a group shot of everyone present at the reunion, there are many other types of photographs that can be taken. Some other ideas of photo opportunities include taking shots of individual families, all the aunts and uncles, all the older cousins, all the younger cousins, and even taking some candid shots of individuals throughout the day. Another good idea is to use a digital camera to take the pictures and have a laptop and printer available on-site so you can print off the pictures to pass out before the guests leave.
