Attitude is a Major Key to Success

Attitude plays a key role in people’s lives, but ironically, people give it the least importance. One’s approach to situations, other people, or certain things says a lot about the person’s past and the kind of future that person will have. People focus more on gaining material possessions than having a positive or better attitude. People think that success and happiness in life are mainly based on wealth. This is a wrong view of life.

Wealth and Education
Wealth enables an individual to prepare for the future by making it possible for him to have education. With money, a person has the privilege of choosing any institution to get education and training from. The person can also acquire any requirements or tools to finish the course/training without difficulty. Yet, even if someone has all the resources, the quality of education still depends on the person’s attitude towards learning.

So what if you have the resources? If you don’t have the patience and the willingness to learn, you will never learn. The resources cannot take you far. They cannot improve your learning and understanding without you doing your part. The first thing to do is to ask yourself the reason why you want to learn something, and then you start from there. You should personally believe that there is a need for you to learn. Once you understand the reason why you have to learn something, your attitude to learning changes. You yourself will create the situation to make the learning process easy and effective. Then you start learning by heart.

Wealth and Power
Wealth can also give somebody power. Wealth means power, and power means wealth. Both factors contribute to one’s success. Wealthy people often get elected for public office since only the rich can afford the machinations for such. Some have used this same power for their own financial gains. This is a proof that wealth and power go side by side. Also, many employers of top companies only hire family members, close friends, or friends of close friends to fill in the top positions in their companies. Those who are not related to the CEOs or Board of Directors in any affinity can get the top positions only if they possess or display exceptional skills in their field. Power seems to be distributed only among the rich themselves.

It seems that wealthy people often get what they want, but does it mean they are happy? People misunderstand fun for happiness. The thing that we get for our money’s worth can only give us fun – a temporary feeling of amusement. It does not make us happy. “Happiness” in contrast with “fun” is a deeper state. It is the joy or the contentment you feel regardless of the material possessions you have. According to a survey done by the University of Michigan, the happiest people in the world are from Nigeria. If we look closely, Nigeria’s (Gross Domestic Product) GDP is only $800. The country ranked 152nd out of 175 countries in the 2003 United Nations Human Development Indicators. On the other hand, the country with the highest GDP in the world,  HYPERLINK "http://www.aneki.com/Liechtenstein.html" Liechtenstein, has a GDP of $118,000, yet it isn’t on the list of the top 5 happiest people in the world. We see now that happiness isn’t based on how much money people have but rather on how they deal with life.

Wealth and Beauty
Another thing that money can give us is good looks. Let’s face it, with the present technology, genes only play a very minimal role in how somebody looks. Medical and surgical procedures are now available to enhance any part of the body one wishes to as long as he has enough financial resources. Pills for the same purpose are also available. You can get your hands on these products if you can afford it. Looking good is as easy as that. Yet, good looks will not guarantee a person’s happiness or success. It can lead you there, but the rest depends on your attitude.

No matter how good looking someone is, as long as the person harbors negativity, nobody would enjoy being with that person. What’s inside is always manifested outside. The one who is full of insecurities and doesn’t appreciate oneself will never look attractive. Self –confidence works like a magnet to the opposite sex. Enjoy, laugh, play your favorite sport, start the hobby you’ve always wanted to do, dance to the music, sing in the shower, love truly, show passion in what you do. Nothing is more attractive than being alive. This energy of life is the power that will attract people to you. Let go of a grudge, forgive your enemy. This will get the load off your shoulder. You will emanate a positive energy that will in turn attract positive things into your life.


Money, power, education, and good looks can give you pleasure, but only of temporary nature. These factors help people become successful, but it is attitude that will determine one’s success or failure. It can bring somebody to the top or drag the person down to nothingness. It all depends on how the individual deals with life. What’s certain is that with the right attitude in every situation, a person can never fail.
