Event Description

The Glenridge Performing Arts Center (7333 Scotland Way,
Sarasota) is hosting a Community Choir Workshop and Concert, featuring The Glenridge
Harmonaires, The Park Larks and The Landoliers, Thursday April 4, 2013 at 2pm.

The Glenridge Harmonaires
The Glenridge Harmonaires have been singing together for 3 years. Glenridge members
Dr. Phil Nelson and Woody Wood had both participated in The Supplementals, an ad-hoc group
of singers put together for one of the annual Glenridge Follies.
They realized how much fun it would be to sing some complex harmonies with 4 or more
parts and got together with GPAC manager Ben Turoff to find a musical director for this new
group. Ben brought Alan Jay Corey, one of the most active and effective music directors in
town, on board and it has been a delightful collaboration ever since.
The Harmonaires rehearse once a week and sing 4-5 short concerts a year. They are 20
members strong and generally sing in 4-6-part harmony. Their concerts are a highlight of the
Glenridge social scene – possibly because they usually sing at the Thistle Stop, the Glenridge
Bar, at happy hour!

The Park Larks
The Park Larks are a group of 18 women from the University Park Women’s Club
(UPWC). They got together in 2003 and have been singing in the Manatee/Sarasota area ever
since. The choral members are varied in their expertise. Some have had musical training, most
have sung in church choirs, and some have been a part of other singing groups such as the Sweet
Adelines and Key Chorale. All share a passion for song and harmony.
Director Barbara Staton is an accomplished musician and former television teacher for
the Georgia ETV Network who has composed numerous songs for recordings and television.
She is a renowned author of a national textbook series and currently a member of the Board
of Trustees for the Perlman Music Program and sits on the Artist Series Concerts board of
directors. Barbara is a resident of University Park and a member of University Park Women's
Club.
Accompanist Gia Havener holds a Master's degree from the New England Conservatory
of Music and a Bachelor's Degree from the Berkley College. She is also Director of Music for a
local church.

In the spirit of the mission of the University Park Women’s Club, they happily present
their holiday and spring programs throughout the community.

The Landoliers
The Landoliers was started in the 90s by a few residents putting together variety shows
with music, solos and readings. It gradually evolved into the present day chorus of 30 men and
women singing four part arrangements and giving an annual concert in the spring along with
additional performances that may arise.
The chorus is made up of people who love to sing, some with a significant musical
background that also perform in other local groups, some who sang in church choirs and glee
clubs along with those who are enjoying this experience for the first time. The main goal of the
group is to enjoy the process of learning new music, have the camaraderie of fellow music lovers
while providing entertainment for friends and neighbors.
For the last 10 plus years the group has been directed by Lenora Jost, a former church
choir director, musician and resident. The chorus is accompanied by Barbara Rothman, a
classically trained pianist who volunteers her services.
