Yes, you have heard that Green Tea is good for you. Perhaps you’re already drinking some of the green tea products popular now.
But the real question is whether you’re getting the right kind of Green Tea? If you want to make wise choices regarding the best green tea for your health; isn’t it a good idea to educate yourself a bit first?
Let’s take a look at some of the varieties of green tea you may have seen, heard of, or tried yourself.
Let’s start with those bottled Green Teas on the grocery shelves.
You may want to take a closer look at what is really in the bottled green tea that you find on the grocery shelves. Just because it has a pretty label doesn’t mean it’s good for you.
Read the long list of ingredients. You not only will wonder how much green tea is actually in the bottle, you will question what all those other ingredients are. You may discover you are drinking far more high fructose corn syrup (and other ingredients) than actual green tea. The diet versions are even worse, as they contain a sugar substitute that in my opinion is so bad for you - that it deserves a complete article on its own. I also ask, why is their a need to add artificial coloring? Humm, isn’t the green tea leaf itself supposed to be green?
What about those boxes that contain the bags of Green Tea that you steep?
Let’s start with the little white bag that holds the tea. Most of those bags are bleached. This bleached bag is what you put in your water to steep before you drink it.
Next, take a look inside of the bag, do the ingredients look fresh? The truth is many of these teas are most likely years old from the time they were picked. Oxidation occurs, leaving the tea with very little nutritional value at all. You will also find that they typically add other flavorings to the bag; they do this so the tea tastes consistent. Just because you think it tastes good, doesn’t mean it has the nutritional value you are looking for.
What about loose leaf or ground Green Tea, you probably found at a Health Food Store?
Now here you may determine that you have found 100% green tea leaf, without added flavorings, preservatives, sweeteners or chemicals. You can also assume that this tea is fresher than those previously mentioned.
At this point, you may be surprised to hear that there are still other
important factors to consider if you are interested in getting the freshest and highest quality green tea.
The truth of the matter is - the better the quality of the green tea, the more health benefits it offers you.
