After much anticipation, the Sarasota Film Festival announced the highlights of this year's festival at a kick-off celebration last night. This year's list of stars and special guests include Woody Harrelson, Jon Voight, Bill Paxton, Paul Schiff, David Carradine, Ileana Douglas, Steve Buscemi, Antonio Ferrera, Ben Foster, Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Nick Dawson, TJ Jagodowski, Oren Moverman, David Ortiz, Joe Pantoliano, David Pasquesi, and Richard Schiff. The number of stars returning to the festival from previous years is a great reflection on our festival. Over 160 films will be presented at this year's festival.
The festival kicks off on March 27 with director Oren Moverman's film, The Messenger which has already won a Silver Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival. Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson, Samantha Morton, and Jena Malone star in this film which is a timeless story of military brotherhood and service. The film examines universal themes of hope, redemption and the resilience of the human spirit. Oren Moverman, Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson are slated to attend Opening Night at the Van Wezel.
Bill Paxton will be honored at this year's Luncheon Under the Banyan. The In Conversation Series at the Historic Asolo Theater will include conversations with Bill Paxton and Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
Film tickets go on sale tomorrow, March 13. Keep checking back to www.wqmag.com for more festival updates as well as photo and video coverage of events.
