WE LIVE IN PUBLIC
This award-winning film by director, Ondi Timoner documents the rise of Internet pioneer Josh Harris to the top of the NYC tech world, his performance art project QUIET and his personal surveillance project WE LIVE IN PUBLIC, and the toll this online living took on Harris' life and fortune. Harris is the founder of one of the first online media companies, Pseudo.com; however, he never saw himself as a dot-com tycoon and instead, used his growing fortune to explore the artistic implications of emerging technology, creating two prescient projects, QUIET and WE LIVE IN PUBLIC that would come to shape the future of the Internet forever. Showing Saturday, March 28 at 8:00pm, Sunday, March 29 at 11:15 am.
THREE BLIND MICE
One of the true discoveries of the festival, three sailors hit the city of Syndey before redeploying to Iraq ready to spend their last night on the home front getting into any trouble they can. A shared secret intensifies the emotions and the stakes when it's revealed. Directed by Matthew Nelson and starring Ewen Leslie, Toby Schmitz, and Matthew Nelson. Showing Monday, March 30 at 7:15pm, Tuesday, March 31 at 5:30pm.
THE BURNING PLAIN
Charlize Theron, Kim Basinger, and big-screen newcomer Jennifer Lawrence give stunning performances in this resonant and tragic drama by acclaimed writer and first time director Guillerno Ariaga (Babel, 21 Grams). Theron plays a beautiful but somber restaurant manager whose bitter emotional detachment sends her on a torrent of brief and skin-deep encounters with men. Mariana (Lawrence) is furious when she catches her troubled mother Gina (Basinger) in the arms of a man who is not Gina's husband. Arriaga's skill for weaving multiple storylines into one rich and complex narrative shines in this unrelentingly dark but redemptive tale. Showing: Sunday, March 29 at 3:45 pm and Monday, March 30 at 7:00 pm.
ART AND COPY
This documentary is Doug Pray's illuminating look at the cream of the advertising crop, the men and women responsible for some of the nation's most famous images andslogans, the creative minds that grabbed headlines, made millions of dollars and bucked the traditions of Madison Avenue while transforming our cultural landscape. Showing: Saturday, April 4 at 2:15pm, Sunday, April 5 at 3:30 pm.
EVERY LITTLE STEP
The festival's closing night film is the story of the smash hit musical, A CHORUS LINE, one of the most successful and longest running shows in the history of Broadway. Much like the play itself, backstage rivalries, personal intrigues, histories and hopes mingle with the chance to dance and the film is there every step of the way, from the first auditions to Opening Night on Broadway. A glittering example of the power of Broadway to inspire dreams, EVERY LITTLE STEP is one singular sensation. Two showings on Sunday, April 5 at 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm.
