Fighting FRIZZ!

1. USE A WEEKLY HAIR MASQUE. This prevents your hair from getting dry or re-hydrates your already dry hair. This goes to ALL you ladies that don't like to use a conditioner because it "weighs my hair down." You need to start incorporating a light weight leave-in spray conditioner AND a weekly or every two week deep conditioner. Dry hair attracts outside humidity and creates frizz. And every hair type, thick or thin, can be dry.

2. RINSE WITH COOL WATER. Every time you shampoo make your final rinse as cold as you can stand, rinsing the hair until all shampoo (if you don't use a conditioner in the shower)or all the conditioner is out. This smooths down the hair cuticle. Smoothing the cuticle (think of it has the cuticle closing) blocks all the outside humidity/ pollution that can penetrate the hair, A.K.A create FRIZZ!

3. DO NOT ROUGH DRY YOUR WET HAIR WITH A TOWEL. Instead blot the hair, squeezing out all the water. Rubbing the hair with the towel roughs up the cuticle of the hair.

4. 30% DRY BEFORE BLOW DRY. Let the hair dry about 30% of the way, either by blotting or air drying before blow drying. Apply products that are designed for your hair texture, then start blow drying the hair. Its best to blow dry with a round brush or paddle brush, always directing the blowdrier in a downward motion. Blowing the hair in an upward fashion will create frizz. Finish wih the cool button on your dryer to smooth the cuticle one last time.

5. PRODUCTS, PRODUCTS, PRODUCTS. Depending on the texture and thickness of your hair, choose products that will help with the smoothing process. But make sure its not too heavy, as this would weigh your hair down. Your hairdresser should be able to help you in this process as there are many different products out there. Or as always stop in at the Hair Color Center in Gulf Gate and our talented staff would be happy to guide you in the right direction. Once hair is completely dry use a humidity resistant hairspray or a light weight serum to create hold and shine.

I hope that these tips will be of some help to you. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to let me know and I will get back with you as soon as possible.
