Are you a movie lover? Have you ever had a secret desire to be a film critic? This Saturday, you can have the opportunity for the day. It sounds like a day any film lover would enjoy with three films to preview and evaluate. The films include a feature comedy, a short film (you’ll help determine if it’s made into a feature film) and a documentary already slated to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. As a participant in “The Film Forecast” focus group, you’ll complete evaluation surveys and comment sheets and have the opportunity to engage in the discussion with industry professionals following each film. Critics even have to sign a confidentiality agreement. Sound like a dream come true? I know I’ll be there!

The focus group meets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, March 20 at the Historic Asolo Theater. The cost to participant in “The Film Forecast” includes lunch, the screening of the world premiere of "Expecting Mary" that evening and a private reception with the filmmakers and lead actress. Wonder why film lovers are being asked to pay to participate? It’s because if people pay, they give honest opinions. People used to be paid to give their opinions, but then they tended to only give positive feedback in order to please the filmmakers. What the filmmakers really need is an authentic response.

Touching Tomorrow, an organization which produces and directs film events all over the world, is responsible for bringing these spectacular events to Sarasota. As a community of film lovers, let’s be sure and show our support. Email filmforecasts@gmail.com to participate or visit www.universalfilmfocus.com for more information.
