Calling All Golfers! Join Us to Celebrate Owen Burns Week-Honoring John Hamilton Gillespie

A. Parker's Books and Book Bazaar, located at 1488 Main Street, Downtown Sarasota is happy to be a sponsor, among many others, of the 2nd Annual Owen Burns Celebration - Honoring John Hamilton Gillespie, the man responsible for bringing the game of golf to Sarasota and to America. All Golf books at our store are discounted 10% during the week of October 24th through the 30th, 2011 (Discount does not Apply to Books Purchased Through Our Store Credit Accounts). We also donated a Gift Certificate for the winner of 1st Annual Kiwanis-John Hamilton Gillespie Charity Golf Tournament, to be hosted at the Serenoa Golf Club, October 28th, 2011.

Additionally, during the week of the Celebration, A. Parker's Books and Book Bazaar is proud to be able to give a 25% discount on this large Wooden Plaque, depicting a Golfer from a by-gone era, almost certainly modeled after Gillespie. The plaque was purchased many years ago and was saved from the Mira Mar Casino, Siesta Key, an early icon (late 1920s to early 1930s) in Sarasota's history.
