Sarasota Bookstore Has Returned from the 2011 Baltimore Summer Antiques Show

A. Parker’s Books, Inc., ABAA, is a Sarasota-based antiquarian bookstore with associate locations in New Orleans and Boston, specializing in scholarly, rare and antiquarian books, sets and fine bindings, as well as library design and collection development services. The Sarasota Bookstore has returned from exhibiting at the 31st Annual Baltimore Summer Antiques Show in Baltimore, Maryland.

The 2011 Baltimore Summer Antiques Show, organized by the Palm Beach Show Group and sponsored by Antiques & Fine Art Magazine, was held at the Baltimore Convention Center, One West Pratt Street, Baltimore Inner Harbor, from August 25th throughout the 28th. The four-day event showcased an international selection of fine art, antiques, rare books, collectibles and estate jewelry. In spite of the adverse weather from Hurricane Irene,  the Show was relatively well attended by the general public and the country's top collectors, drawn to this largest and most important Summer Antiques Show featuring over 550 International Antiques Dealers and 70 International Antiquarian Book Dealers.

This year, we shared Booths 712 and 714 with our Sister Store in Boston, Commonwealth Books, voted Boston's Best Used Bookstore, 2011, by Boston Magazine.  Together, A. Parker's Books and Commonwealth Books were delighted to be a part of this Summer Show and brought many collectible and noteworthy items. Among them included a first edition of Charles Darwin's first appearance in print, a signed letter by Booker T. Washington, a signed book by Charles Bukowski, a signed limited edition of Saint-Exupery's Le Petit Prince, two original signed sketches by Andy Warhol, an early edition of Piranesi, a beautifully rebound two-volume edition of Samuel Binion's Ancient Egypt, an original oil painting of Paul Bunyan formerly owned by Robert Lewis Stevenson, an early original painting of Chaucer, a signed collection of Tennyson's Works, signed limited editions of Pablo Neruda, and an early Papal Binding.
