I am not talking about preventing the" Fall Season.'

I am talking about preventing Falls in the Homes of our Elderly Parents.

Through Education and self examination you can eliminate the likelihood of falls in the home.

Health& Saftey.

Check medications: Taking multiple meds. can cause diziness, confusion, drowsiness and balance problems.

Changes in Hearing: Hearing loss is a huge factor that causes dizziness, be sure to get regular check-ups.

Changes in Vision: Have you noticed a change in their vision? you should have an Eye exam at least every year.

Loose footwear: You will find many of our parents love to wear their comfortable floppy slippers, even to the supermarket. Take them to purchase a well- fitting non-skid pair of shoes.

Abilities.

Reaching overhead? Put commonly used items on lower easier to reach shelves, if they must reach overhead for some items, keep a sturdy step stool handy.

Picking up objects from floor? Plan ahead. Move the items closer to something sturdy to hold on to.

Getting in and out of bath/ shower? Consider adding grab bars to the walls, or using a tub seat to assist with bathing.

Walking without holding on to something? If they feel unsteady without holding onto door frames ,chair backs or arms, then they may need a cane or other wallking-assisted device, consult their doctor or health care provider.

These are just a few things you can do to reduce The Risk Of Falls.

Always remember...... FALLS ARE PREVENTABLE.
