If the response to Saturday’s grand opening of Michael’s New Wine Cellar and Tasting Room is any indication, then Michael Klauber and Phil Mancini have yet another winner on their hands. Michael’s dream to renovate and expand the Wine Cellar came to fruition when the long-awaited space finally became available next door. With its industrial ceilings and intimate bistro style, the renovation resembles something you’d be more likely to find in New York than Sarasota. A small bar area, high top tables, and al fresco seating aren’t the only additions to the wine cellar. Wine glasses and accessories, wine-themed baskets, specialty cheeses, olive oil and mixers make the store a one-store shop now. You can even take a break for a taste of wine and a light bite while you enjoy the new surroundings and chat with the well-educated staff.
The “Wine Cellar” now houses more than just wine; the cellar stocks 70 beers from around the world and select spirits. Satisfying anyone’s beverage needs and housing more than 220 wines under $20 means that Michael may just give Total Wine the run for their money he desires. The fact that Michael has a personal relationship with 90 percent of the wineries makes the estate and domaine-bottled wines in the cellar even more interesting.
With disappearing “walls” painted with murals that open and close as easily as garage doors to accommodate one party or two, the space which accommodates from 12 to 125 people is already reserved for a number of private parties and events. To accommodate all of the private parties, the Tasting Room will close at 7pm on evenings except Thursday (and Sundays when the Cellar is closed). Thursdays are planned for “After Hours at the Tasting Room” where you can enjoy themed wine and beers until 9 pm. Watch for educational events and Wine Discovery nights in the future too.
