It’s far from a secret that I have a love affair with Brasserie Belge on Main Street Downtown. What started out as a courtship, quickly grew into a discrete yearning. It wasn’t long before I was pinned and had eyes swooning for my Western European lover. If it’s possible for me to gush more, now is the time. To say “the best just got better” would be a farce in the sense that it wouldn’t do Brasserie Belge enough justice. Brilliance became magnificent? Okay, those lush words will have to do. Without further adieu, ladies and gentlemen, I present you not only Sarasota’s only restaurant serving authentic Belgian cuisine, however that plus their newest and most inspired idea yet…welcome now the popular and talented singer/pianist Chalyce to the brand new Brasserie Belge Piano Lounge for a long-term engagement at the baby grand.
Are your toes tapping with excitement? Can you feel your shoulders involuntarily swaying to the movement of the keys? I can, and it’s never felt so right. Chalyce Sullivan, who once sang in the Santa Fe Opera and has appeared in many Broadway productions, has a loyal following that’s been eagerly anticipating her return to performing. With a voice that’s been described as “smoky quartz,” the musician is a multi-talented artist classically trained in piano, voice and violin. Her vocal performance study took place at the New England Conservatory of Music.
Chalyce began her exclusive Brasserie Belge Piano Lounge engagement on this past Wednesday the 5th and will continue to sooth the ears of Sarasotians on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights from 7-11 p.m. For me, I find only one problem that I know will plague you all as well. Should I arrive at Brasserie Belge around seven for a late dinner of Mussels Marinière or Steak Tartare? Should I treat the gal pals to ‘Hot n’ Dirty’ Martinis at the bar? Should I late night rendezvous with the beau for Café Glace? The hardships are endless.
Brasserie Belge is located at 1990 Main Street (across from the Hollywood 20 Cinema at Courthouse Centre). Free parking on the third and fourth floors of the Courthouse Centre Parking garage in back of the restaurant at 1997 Ringling Blvd. Brasserie Belge is open daily for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday and for dinner on Sundays. Reservations are suggested. For reservations in the main dining room or bar or for additional information, call 706-1944. And visit the Web site at www.BrasserieBelge.com.
