….except at Chillounge, that is. With this week-end’s lineup of events, Chillounge will be the only place you have the opportunity to chill over the next few days. If you only have the social energy for one event, Chillounge will be the one to pick. But if you just pick one, you’ll be missing out on a lot of other fun around town too.
Beginning with Thursday’s Google Rally/Concert from 6:30 to 9:00pm, go out to City Island and join the crowds striving to bring Google Fiber to Sarasota. Lindsey Ray, whose original music has been featured in national commercials and TV shows, will be performing in concert. If you attend the concert, be sure to nominate Sarasota for Google Fiber at
www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi/public/options. That’s all that is being asked for admittance.
On Friday, head on over to the Art Center for Iconcept 2010. Art meets fashion as 25 artists create wearable art that will be showcased in a choreographed runway fashion show from 7-10 pm. While you’re in the neighborhood, be sure and stop by GWIZ for the new S/Art/Q exhibition for a sneak peak into the artist’s world from inspiration to completion. Stop by before or after IConcept; the free opening reception is from 5-11pm. If you’re looking for something a little more casual, there’s the Humane Society’s Smooch a Pooch Stroll in Southside Village from 5-8pm with a store to store scavenger hunt…but you may have to kiss a dog! Hey, but lots of us women have done that already, now haven’t we?
And then there’s Saturday. After having to wait for Chillounge to return to Sarasota as the event made its waves through Fort Myers, Tampa and St. Petersburg, it’s finally back home! Rainer Scheer works long and hard year- round to transform Palm Avenue for an evening and bring us the coolest outdoor lounge ever! Benefiting UCP, this event has something for everyone: live smooth jazz, opera, fashion show, Cleopatra parade on daybeds, Brazilian Samba parade and beautiful areas for lounging. And of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without food and drink vendors, perfect for alfresco dining. This event is always great for running into tons of people you know. But perhaps best of all, it always reminds me of how many more people there are yet to know. Chillounge starts at 7pm on Palm Ave. Downtown Sarasota.
Then... Patricia Dore is also having her annual Punk Party on Saturday night (yes... on the same night as Chillounge.) The Punk Party starts at 8pm and goes til 1am. Patricia says for everyone who brings a Chillounge ticket, you can get in to the Punk Party for only $10!! So, if you’re the least bit nostalgic for punk or if you just want to support Trish, you better stop by. Plus, it’s at the HuB which is fast becoming famous for their great parties! This charity event, which is guaranteed to be unlike any charity event you’ve ever attended, will benefit local charity 1000 People Who Care. In addition to all of the punk-clad party-goers, Men from Mars and DJ Rus Deep will provide the entertainment, along with a punk-rock fashion show.
With all this fun going on this weekend, I might just catch a case of spring fever! Come on out and join me! Then on Sunday…..you can truly chill.
