Relationship Tip of the Week: This Thanksgiving, make a list and check it twice

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the abundance in our lives – a time for gratitude. Yet, when people count their blessings, they tend to generalize – such as being grateful for a spouse or loved one, but not taking the time to reflect on all the specific reasons. This week, take the time to make a list of all of the things in your relationship for which you are grateful. Consider all the tangible and intangible gifts your relationship has brought into your life – from the little gestures, special touches, admirable qualities and valuable lessons learned through your connection to this special person in your life. Share your list with your loved one this holiday. Extend your appreciation with words, actions and affection.

Save a copy of your list so you don’t forget to focus on the abundance in your relationship the rest of the year. There are moments in every relationship where couples need to remind themselves of the good between them. When those moments happen, having reminders of the positive on hand can provide an opportunity to turn lemons into lemonade. When time is taken to focus on the positive, a new mindset typically follows. Not to mention that when you’re showing appreciation, your loved one is likely to respond favorably in turn. Focusing on abundance creates more abundance. If you want to live large in your relationship, practice this tip all year long.
