On Sunday, May 6, 2012, A. Parker's Books and Book Bazaar will be hosting a Book Signing by nationally recognized, award winning cartoonist, illustrator and caricaturist Rob Smith, Jr., also known as "Swampy." The Downtown Sarasota Book Signing starts at 12 noon, at 1488 Main Street, one storefront west of the southwest corner of Main Street and Lemon Avenue.
In addition to being a cartoonist, Rob is also a nut about the Great State of Florida. After 25 years working in a zillion ways helping fellow Floridians and tourists to better know our state, he started 'Swampy's Florida' as an effort to reach even more people. In April 2011 Rob kicked off the current series of Swampy's coloring&guide books with one about Lakeland. Now there are 7 books and more to come just in May 2012.
The intent is to reach children to help them better know the state. Then hoping that the children will ask their parents to take them to visit the locations in the back of each book that coincide with the book's contents. The best news Rob hears about the results of getting the coloring books is that more people are exploring and visiting so much Florida has to offer.
Rob's other cartoon work includes being the editorial cartoonist for a well known radio & TV personality and various publicans, book illustrator, advertising illustration, caricaturist, gag cartoonist, comic strips, comic books, etc.
Rob is proud of his being fortunate to be able to travel for the USO, with fellow cartoonists, and entertain our troops across the country and around the world.
Rob also serves in many, many organizations across Florida involving historical, environmental and other issues. He is currently the Florida Chapter Chairman for the National Cartoonists Society and is also Education Chairman.
