The application of acrylic nails typically contains many potential hazards to women’s health. For years, the price of beauty has potentially cost women their health. Now women finally have an alternative. They can have acrylic nails without the formaldehyde, toluene, MMA and toxic odors. Yet buyers beware, these health-protecting acrylic nails are not the ones offered at most nail salons
What the elimination of these chemicals means to your health:
Formaldehyde – eliminates exposure to a known human carcinogen, prevents irritation of eyes, nose, throat and skin, and prevents risk of dermatitis.
Toluene – eliminates the risk of headaches, forgetfulness, confusion, dizziness, fatigue, possible liver damage and potential birth defects, including brain damage.
MMA – prevents serious damage to the lungs and nail. Although banned by the FDA, this chemical continues to be used in some salons.
Odor-free – prevents headaches, respiratory issues and risk of asthma.
At least one local salon is offering the new formaldehyde-free acrylic nails. Owner of Inspirations Salon, Erin Dawson was anxious to add the new acrylic nails to the menu of nail services when they became available. Until recently, Inspirations Salon only offered light-cured gel nails (LCN). From the beginning, Erin has been determined that her salon’s clients won’t risk harmful chemicals entering their bloodstream when they have their nails done. While some women love the gel nails, other women remain attached to the familiar acrylic nails. Their strength, beauty and availability in Pink and Whites make them attractive to customers; yet at Inspirations Salon, what’s most important is the commitment to toxic-free, hygienic nail care.
Wherever you get your nails done, make sure you don’t take your health for granted. Protect your health. If you wear acrylic nails, make sure you wear formaldehyde-free acrylics. And if your salon doesn’t offer them (and they probably don’t), you can always count on Inspirations Salon to offer the latest in toxic-free nail care.
