The Flexitarian Diet
A recent article in Natural Awakenings caught my attention. The author talked about a new concept called the Flexitarian way of eating. This idea makes so much sense and is in fact what most informed health conscious people are gravitating towards anyway.
Nothing you like would be off limits but the because of the incredible health benefits from eating a wide variety of whole plant based foods the smart thing to do is increase the consumption of those things and just decrease your portions of, but not give up meat, fish, eggs and dairy. The emphasis is on whole plant foods but we should most definitely give up refined processed foods as these have a high glycemic index, which causes blood sugars to increase resulting in the now ubiquitous fat belly and worse; diabetes high blood pressure and all sorts of unpleasant chronic diseases and early death.
It’s wise to learn about high glycemic foods and avoid them as much as possible, the common ones and 70% of what we Americans eat are sugar, high fructose corn syrup, white flour, potatoes, white rice and corn flower. For more information see articles under Health Bytes at www.lonjevity.net.
