How to Polish Your Professional Image

Your professional image and reputation are the most valuable asset you have in the business world. Having a solid, positive, professional image will take you far in your career. If your behavior detracts from that image, others won’t see you in a positive light and your career will suffer. If a good professional image is tarnished by unacceptable behavior, you may never regain what you have lost.

This is why it’s so important to always do the right thing and always strive to be the ultimate professional in every way. Here are a few tips or suggestions that you should keep in mind if you value your image:

1. You represent your business every minute of every day. Never go out into the public (even the grocery store) without paying attention to your appearance.

2. How you communicate with others is important. Smile and make good eye contact, let them know they are important to you by listening to them.

3. Always do what you say you will do. Be a person of your word. If you say you’ll be there, be there – no matter what. Reliability is a very important part of your image.

4. Be honest and straightforward. If you are asked a question and you don’t have the answer, admit it. “I will find out and get back to you by the end of the day.” is a great response. We can’t possibly have all the answers, so don’t hesitate to admit that you don’t know. And then, very important, get back to them by the end of the day even if it’s just to tell them that you are still working to find the answer for them.

5. Always be punctual. Being on time indicates that the person you are meeting with is important to you.

6. Be sincere and open, but never bash the competition. If you are better than your competition, let the customer determine that by your positive actions, not by the negative things you say about others.

It is my hope that you find these suggestions helpful and thought provoking. Remember to “polish your image” every day in every way. If you do, you’ll shine bright and be remembered as the ultimate professional. www.brightfuture4u2.com
